Today Manna had a meeting with all committee heads to discuss concerns and the future of the ministry. During that time I was talking about how we, as a ministry need to become more organized and that we need to be more diligent about doing things in order and on time.
On this same day, we left Crossroads late to get the soup and go into the Hunts Point are of the Bronx.
Our first stop was at the Living Room and when we arrived many of the residents were already downstairs waiting for us, and we immediately got organized and started to serve. Shortly after, there was a woman with her four children that were sent by one of the residents to come and see us so that we could help her. She and her children were dressed in sweaters and it was freezing outside. It just happened that Pete had coats in the van for three of the four children and one of the volunteers, Lisa, was about the same size as the woman's eldest child and she removed her jacket and gave it to him. After giving them coats and gloves, we were able to provide some food for her and the children.
The eldest boy was actually smiling, hopping around, obviously grateful and joyous about what he had received. He now, was a blessing to us. At that moment I became convicted because I realized that I was complaining about us running late and God revealed to me, that I am not in control, no matter how much I want. He is in control, sending us out to serve His children when He needs us to do so. If we were not running late, we would not have been able to bless His children. Serving is not about us, it's all about Him!
